The Labour Campaign for Drug Reform
The Labour Campaign for Drug Reform is a grassroots campaign chaired by Labour MPs Jeff Smith and Thangam Debbonaire. The forum provides Labour members, supporters and those involved at the day to day level in dealing with the consequences of our existing drugs policy in the UK, to debate and shape Labour’s drug policy for the future.
I was delighted to participate alongside Ron Hogg (Durham PCVC), Fiona Gilbertson (Recovering Justice Founder) and Danny Ahmed (Clinical Partner, Foundations) as part of a series of eleven public meetings being held across the United Kingdom.
The purpose of these meetings is to engage Labour members and supporters about the issues with UK drugs policy, and in turn what they would like to see changed.
The ideas and suggestions put forward will be recorded and then passed over to an Expert Working Group, which is being chaired by Lord Charles Falconer.
The EWG will codify these findings into salient policy recommendations, and present them back to the Shadow frontbench, with the aim taking forward a policy proposals to Labour Party Annual Conference.
