MP welcomes Horden Rail Station green light
Easington MP Grahame Morris spoke of his delight after Horden Rail Station passed final planning approval by Durham County Council.
The exciting plans to build the new £10.55 million station on the Durham Coast Line will see the creation of two 100 metre platforms, an accessible footbridge, shelters, a 136-space car park and bus stops. A new access road, footpath and cycleway will also be built.
The initial work is due to start during the next few weeks, ahead of the station being open to passengers in Spring 2020.
Grahame Morris MP said:
“Horden Rail Station has been a long time in the planning and I am delighted that we are now only a few weeks away from breaking ground.
The new Rail Station will improve our regional connectivity and will give residents greater accessibility to the national rail network.
The station will provide new employment, leisure and tourism opportunities that will be of significant benefit to Horden and the surrounding communities of Peterlee, Easington and Blackhall.”
